Referred to as “tequila’s divine cousin”, mezcal has recently become the newest obsession among tequila enthusiasts around the country. Basically, mezcal encompasses everything that’s in style right now – It’s organic. It’s small batch. It’s mysterious (in a good way). Finally, it’s artisanal, and everyone wants a sip of it.

Smokey, spicy and smooth are the three best adjectives to describe The Rail Yard, a mezcal-forward cocktail that’s being shaken to perfection at Cantina.

Reminiscent of a classic margarita with a serious punch of spice and a stronger yet still approachable flavor profile, The Rail Yard is not for the faint of heart. But if you’re ready to jump on the mezcal train, this is the drink to do it with.

The Rail Yard

  • 1 1/2 ounce Meteoro Joven Mezcal
  • 1 Lime
  • 1/2 ounce Orange Juice
  • 1/2 ounce Agave Nectar
  • 1 Jalapeño
  • Black Pepper

Muddle three slices of jalapeño in a mixing glass.  Add mezcal, orange juice, agave nectar and freshly squeezed lime juice (1 whole lime). Add ice and shake vigorously. Strain over ice into a rocks glass. Garnish with a slice of jalapeño and two turns of coarsely ground black pepper.
